Laguna de Lor
Nearby wetland for birdwatching
Stretching between Cascante, Ablitas, and Barillas is the Laguna de Lor, a wetland of great interest for birdwatching and traditionally linked to irrigation. Depending on the season, it is common to see tufted ducks, coots, mallards, great crested grebes, and other migratory species that use the pond as a resting area.
Starting from Barillas, there is a signposted route of about 5.2 km (gentle elevation change) that leads to the lagoon and runs along it on an elevated track, ideal for stopping with binoculars. The agricultural surroundings — olive groves, vineyards, and cereal crops — complete the landscape.
Practical tips: bring water, sun protection, and avoid approaching the shores during the breeding season. The paths are not the most comfortable for wheelchairs or strollers.
