Imperial Canal of Aragon Bridge
The municipal area of Cortes is linked to the historic Imperial Canal, a major Enlightenment-era work that organised irrigation and facilitated navigation and transport between the middle Ebro and Zaragoza. At the entrance to the town, traces and bridges associated with the canal’s route are preserved, now integrated into landscape and cycling itineraries in La Ribera.
The presence of the canal partly explains contemporary agricultural expansion and adds technical and historical interest to the visit, with footbridges, bridges and towpaths that help visitors understand the hydraulic engineering of the period.
