Fitero is home to the oldest Cistercian monastery in the Iberian Peninsula, founded in 1140. It is also known for its spa, with more than 2,000 years of history and waters already used by the Romans, and for inspiring the poet Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, who wrote some of his famous legends here in the 19th century.
