Arga Caves

At the foot of the cliff are caves dug into the rock, popularly known as the Arga or Vergel Caves. For much of the first half of the 20th century they were used for domestic and subsistence purposes, making them a distinctive ethnographic testimony in La Ribera.

The cavities contain chimneys, niches and old ovens built into the rock itself. A visit helps explain how the gypsum materials of the slope were used and how the river and the relief shaped ways of living.
