Hotel Santa Ana Tudela
The four-star Hotel Santa Ana is the only hotel situated in the heart of Tudela’s Old Town.
It is an independent venture by four young people from Tudela who, after several years living in other cities in Spain and around the world, decided to return ‘home’, dreaming of making Tudela an open, modern city, recognised both nationally and internationally for its historical, architectural, natural and cultural attractions.
The restoration project for the two historic buildings that now house the Hotel Santa Ana, involving a total investment of three million euros, stemmed from the partners’ firm commitment to reviving the historical legacy of their hometown. The building stands as a living testament to the passage of time. The two key features of the building have been fully restored and refurbished: on the one hand, the 12th-century medieval cellar and, on the other, the late 15th-century coffered ceiling, which adorns the ceiling of what is now the Arcilla Suite. We have also salvaged the hydraulic tiles from the floor of the former mansion to reuse them as decorative features on the façade balconies and in the public toilets.
The hotel has 19 rooms, two of which are suites. The names given to the two types of room are based on a duality present in the daily lives of Tudela’s inhabitants: water, with the River Ebro lapping at its banks and nourishing the fields to produce the tastiest vegetables in the country; and the land of the Bardenas desert, which provides pasture for livestock. For this reason, cattail and clay were chosen as the natural elements that characterise the area’s landscapes and shape the customs of its inhabitants. The cattail, a plant found on the banks of the Ebro that sways in the cierzo wind, represents the rooms with an en-suite shower, whilst clay, by contrast, represents the remaining rooms. These elements are also perfectly represented in the various works of art found in the hotel’s rooms and communal areas, designed by the Madrid-based architect Guillermo Gusó and crafted using traditional paper-mâché techniques and dyes created from natural elements of the local environment (clay, oxides, vegetation, and even fibres from the most characteristic vegetables of Tudela’s market gardens).
In addition, the hotel boasts several spaces dedicated to dining and hosting all kinds of corporate events and private parties, such as the Enriqueta by L&ele restaurant, with its adjoining outdoor patio that invites you to unwind, the 12th-century medieval wine cellar, the true jewel of the building, and the rooftop terrace with a spectacular panoramic view of the Old Town, Santa María Cathedral, the Monreal Tower, Moncayo, and more – the perfect spot to have a drink with friends and enjoy the sunset in a unique setting in Tudela.
The Hotel Santa Ana aims to be a gateway to Tudela, the Old Town and the surrounding natural environment (the River Ebro, the Bardenas Reales Natural Park) for everyone visiting the city. It aims to become a space where the residents of Tudela and those arriving from other regions and countries can share experiences. The hotel offers an escape to an urban oasis, a chance to switch off, relax, break away from the daily grind, meet new people and reconnect with oneself. With its slogan ‘let yourself go’, it seeks to reinforce the idea of slow living, of letting go and being looked after. To pause time and enjoy the little things.”
