Town Hall

The Town Hall occupies a building with a rich history and continuous use: it integrates a 16th-century eastern section and 18th-century expansions, unified during a late 20th-century renovation. The portico facing the square—featuring semi-circular arches—and the upper gallery provide rhythm and shade, fulfilling its dual role as institutional architecture and a gathering space for citizens.

Over the last decade, urban and efficiency improvements have modernized the surroundings and the building itself, all while respecting its historical character. For visitors, the Town Hall serves three functions: a calling card for the old town, a viewpoint for daily activity, and a "stage" for festivals, markets, and cultural events. Pedestrian routes start conveniently from here: towards the parish church (just a few meters away), towards Casa Muruzábal (right opposite), and, in the opposite direction, towards the traditional streets of the old town that climb up to the caves.

As an architectural piece, note the coexistence of solutions from different eras: the sober language of the 16th century in the arches and thick walls; and the more open spirit of the 18th century in the balconies and galleries. This dialogue perfectly summarizes the evolution of Arguedas: from an agricultural town to the gateway of an emotionally powerful landscape, the Bardenas Reales.
