Azagra Viewpoint (Stork Viewpoint)

On the edge of La Peña, above the town, lies the Azagra viewpoint, popularly known as the Stork Viewpoint. It is a natural balcony over the Ebro and the fertile plain, offering a complete panorama of the municipality: the urban layout, market gardens, a mosaic of vineyards and, on clear days, the silhouettes of Moncayo or Yerga on the horizon. The site coincides with the location of the former castle, demolished in 1516, which underlines its historic strategic value. Access runs among vineyards along a dirt track with local signage, and the Town Council has equipped the area with tables, benches and an information panel that helps interpret the landscape and history of the place. The viewpoint’s nickname is well deserved: nearby nests and stork flights offer very visible scenes in season, making it an ideal point for wildlife observation without leaving the town surroundings. As a complement to La Barca and the Soto observatory, this viewpoint completes Azagra’s landscape triangle: river, cliff and valley, three faces of the same territory.
