Convent of marcilla

It was a former female Cistercian monastery where one of the most beautiful images, the polychrome carving of the White Virgin, can be found. This image may have been made in the 15th century, as the monumentality of the Flemish style can be seen in the folds of this standing image of Mary and Child.

The monastery is an architectural ensemble in brick built in the last quarter of the 18th century, in a Baroque-Classicist style. The church, soberly decorated, is located in the centre of the complex. Inside the monastery, the museum of the order, with objects of great singularity, and the cloister, leafy and peaceful, are equally outstanding.
