Interpretation: Milagro Pier

We find here the recovery of the old pier that aims to recover an emblematic space for the development of aquatic activities with non-motorized boats and river ecotourism.

Did you know that to reach the Ebro River from the Pyrenees, whose forest wealth was highly valued for the construction of ships, citadels or royal palaces, you had to follow the entire course of the Aragón River in Navarre? That is why Milagro became an important river port as it was a strategic point for the transport of wood from the forests.

But, do you know how was the transport of wood by rivers carried out in the past? Well, with the system of "almadías", the Navarrese equivalent of the Aragonese "nabatas" or the Catalan "raiers", a mean of river transport that dates back to the 18th century by which the "almadieros" used for centuries to transport to the Ebro the logs of wood from the Pyrenees.

In the Roncal Valley, in Burgui, the “Day of the Almadía”has become a National Tourist Festivity celebrated every year without a specific date but close to the last weekend of April or the first weekend of week of May.
