Church of Our Lady of the Assumption

Description and Construction Date

This newly designed church was built in 1952 on the site of the previous church, preserving the essential layout of the original building. The brick facade, with its pointed entrance arch, rose window and oculi, reflects the sober architectural language of the mid-20th century and stands on Calle Donantes de Sangre, next to the Town Hall.

Notable Heritage

Among its furnishings, the dressed image of the Cristo de la Siembra stands out. Documented in 1627 and attributed to the sculptor Juan de Binies, with polychromy by Juan de Lumbier, it is a piece of great local devotion and historical-artistic value. The church also preserves a Churrigueresque high altarpiece made around 1700, notable for its Solomonic columns and abundant Baroque ornamentation.

Religious Life

The parish is a focus of worship and tradition in Murchante, especially linked to the celebrations in honour of the Cristo de la Buena Siembra and to the local liturgical calendar.
