Medieval Walls
Tudela had a complex defensive wall system of Muslim origin, later reinforced after the reconquest. It included several gates, such as Albazares, Zaragoza, Velilla, Calahorra and Calagurris. Its dismantling in the 16th century led to many of its ashlar blocks being reused in constructions such as Plaza de los Fueros. In recent years, new stretches have been discovered in Herrerías and Plaza Nueva, helping to understand the scale of the city’s defences.
