Ablitas Castle (Ablitas)
Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1985, it is an element of great importance for the town of Ablitas, which was built between the 13th and 14th centuries, according to the construction typology of the keep. The first written evidence of the castle dates back to 1119, shortly after the conquest of the town from the Muslims, in a document by Alfonso I El Batallador, although it is popularly believed that the castle was built by the Muslims in the 10th century. Nowadays only a few remains remain, the most outstanding of which, although demolished, is the keep, inside which there is a curious vaulted room with a diameter of about 7 metres and a large central column, which served as the fortress's cistern. Above the cistern there must have been another two floors of living quarters, which would have given the tower a height of some 17 or 20 metres.
