Mouth of the Ega River

The meeting point of the Ega and the Ebro, between San Adrián and Azagra, is one of the most recognisable river landscapes in La Ribera navarra. The Ega, which descends from Urbasa and structures much of Navarre, turns south here and delivers its flow to the Ebro, creating a mosaic of habitats: riverside groves, slow waters, islands, stony banks and cliffs. The Soto and Sotillo area offers a changing scene according to seasons and water levels, with excellent conditions for fishing and birdwatching. The approved PR-NA 209 trail proposes a circular route of around 10.7 km that borders fertile plains and channels, reaches the confluence area and returns along agricultural tracks, allowing visitors to read the landscape: market gardens and vineyards on one side, alders and poplars on the other, and always the Ebro as the guiding thread. The route, with moderate gradient and difficulty, is signposted and assessed using MIDE criteria, making it easier for families and occasional walkers to choose. Beyond its visual appeal, this point explains Azagra’s own reason for being: a town that looks towards the river and has learned to live with it, taking advantage of its opportunities while respecting its rhythms.
