“La Barca de Azagra” and the local trail PR-NA 209 represent a privileged natural space of notable ecological value for the development of plant species and in which the fauna associated with river habitats can be easily observed. Although it is true that the “Barca de Azagra” is currently a recreation area with tables, grills, a bar and a children's playground, this space has been known by various names throughout history – the pontoon, the boat, the port–, all of them reflect the passage of people and materials between the towns of Azagra and Calahorra through the Ebro river by means of a large tow barge. At this point we also find "El fortín", a building that served as a defensive point in the Carlist wars.

The beginning of the route on the banks of the Ebro allows you to enter a fluvial space full of life. The visitor follows a beautiful path between trees and riparian vegetation that allows him to enter the riverbed, its groves and meanders that provide optimal conditions for the development of river habitats. It is an itinerary that allows you to observe and enjoy the riverside avifauna since, for example, migratory birds stop in the groves to rest and feed and there is a great variety of waterfowl such as mallards, Eurasian bitterns, or little grebes. It is very common to find cormorants, purple herons and storks on the shores.

The river Ega that rises in Álava and has its mouth in the Ebro, which is a space of high landscape value on this route
