San Miguel Church (Barillas)

An anonymous Gothic altarpiece is preserved in the parish church of San Miguel, despite several attempts to attribute it to specific painters from the second half of the 15th century. It is a three-aisled altarpiece with a predella that presents various scenes from the Infancy and Public Life of Christ, the Coronation of the Virgin, the Stigmatisation of Saint Francis of Assisi, and in the central panel, Saint Michael spearing the dragon, flanked by the donors of the altarpiece in a prayerful attitude.
