Church of Santa María la Real
The church of Santa María la Real, in the heart of the town centre, is the municipality’s main place of worship and preserves the imprint of its medieval origins. Its ashlar exterior, with an archivolt doorway and upper oculus, reflects the late Romanesque taste that characterised religious architecture in the area. Inside, the broad, bright nave houses altarpieces from later periods, allowing visitors to read, in a single space, the devotional and artistic continuity of Fitero over the centuries.nnThe church fits naturally into the urban fabric: the square in front of it serves as a meeting place and as a photographic setting for the ensemble. For travellers, it is a perfect complement to a visit to the monastery, helping to understand the evolution of local religious heritage from the Middle Ages to the present day.
