Basilica of our lady of patronage

The Basilica of Our Lady of Patrocinio, an exceptional example of the richness of Navarrese Baroque, was erected at the end of the s. XVII following the plans of master Pedro de Aguirre.

The temple, located in the lower part of the town, has an octagonal Greek cross plan. Its complex roof with groin vaults with domes and lanterns arranged two by two, and the large elliptical dome of the transept that give it its characteristic silhouette stand out.

The exterior, made of brick, with supports of carved pilasters that extend into a cornice; It shows a main facade that begins with a small staircase, a portal with a semicircular arch framed with geometric shapes, a niche with the image of Our Lady of Patrocinio, a pediment, a dome, a lantern and pinnacles.

The interior, with profuse plant decorations, houses the Gothic carving of the Virgen del Patrocinio.
