Caves of Valtierra

On the hills surrounding the town centre, numerous caves excavated in gypsum and clay have been preserved. For centuries they were used as homes, storerooms or wine cellars, thanks to their stable temperature throughout the year. Several have been restored, preserving whitewashed facades and traditional features, and today they can be visited or are used as rural accommodation.\r\n\r\nA signposted route from the town centre explains their origin, excavation techniques and ethnographic uses, with interpretive content that also explores the historical role of salt and the local legends linked to these landscapes.
